HOW TO SAVE MONEY AND TIME ON COSTLY FORK LIFT, LIFT TRUCK AND PALLET TRUCK MAINTENANCE
Fork Lift Truck repairs can be costly. The most common repairs are (other than normal upkeep) usually steering components and tires. These two items alone can be very costly to repair in parts alone, not to count the necessary down time for repairs. The time spent on repairing these items by your maintenance department can be more productive repairing production equipment rather than material handling equipment. If you contract with your Material Handling Equipment Dealer the cost could be even higher.
The primary reason for these repairs becoming necessary is normally not due to defects in the equipment, but the abuse it is given in your facility.
Unlike a vehicle we drive on the road each day, Fork Lifts and Pallet Trucks do not have springs or shocks. This means the slightest bump (even a 1/4" bump) sends tremendous shock waves through the Fork Lift or Pallet Truck. The constant shock of hitting these small cracks in the floor will greatly decrease the life of your steering gear and tires. The steering becomes loose and the tires loose chunks of rubber with each hit. The same is true with the synthetic type tires.
You can prevent a good portion of this type of abuse by simply repairing the cracks and holes in the floor. I'm sure if you discuss this with your Material Handling dealer they will advise you to do the same. That's where Nor-Mar comes in.
